At least one person in critical condition, investigation ongoing
A high-speed crash in Chicago's West Lawn neighborhood early Friday morning has left one person in critical condition and two vehicles severely damaged. The incident occurred at around 4:44 a.m. on the 4000 block of W. 59th St, outside a 7-11 convenience store.
Police reports suggest that a Ford Mustang was speeding when it collided with a Toyota SUV, causing both cars to be mangled and crushed, with car parts scattered across the road. The driver of the Mustang fled the scene but was later found several blocks away and taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The driver of the Toyota SUV, who is reported to be aged 50 years old, was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Photos and videos from the scene show both vehicles crumpled beyond recognition with debris littered all over the roadway as well as inside the parking lot of the convenience store located near Pulaski Rd intersection.
An investigation into what caused this accident is currently ongoing while charges or citations are yet to be determined by authorities involved in this case.
