A tragic hit-and-run crash occurred on September 17th within the city limits of Fairmount, Georgia, leaving one motorcyclist dead and several others seriously injured. The incident took place on GA 61 (US 411), according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Ronald Grady Dickson was driving a Ford F-150 at a high rate of speed along GA 61 in Gordon County when disaster struck. The Ford F-150 collided violently with a group of three motorcycles that were riding together. The impact was so severe that one motorcycle became embedded in the front of the truck.
Rather than stopping at the scene as required by law, Dickson fled from the accident site while still carrying the attached motorcycle. Fortunately, an alert witness immediately pursued him until Fairmount Police intercepted his vehicle approximately six miles north of where the collision occurred.
The aftermath of this devastating crash resulted in extensive road closures for hours along GA 61 (US 411). The closure lasted from around 2:03 p.m., when the incident happened, until approximately 4:42 p.m. Furthermore, it is reported that debris from the initial crash scene stretched over an estimated distance of about 1000 feet.
Emergency services responded swiftly to attend to those involved in this horrific accident. Three motorcycle riders had to be airlifted via Life Force helicopters to different trauma centers for urgent medical attention, while two others were transported by ambulance. Tragically, despite all efforts made by medical professionals, one motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities have taken swift action against Ronald Grady Dickson following his reckless actions during this fatal hit-and-run incident. At present, he faces multiple serious charges including DUI (Driving Under Influence), Homicide by Vehicle in First Degree, Felony Hit & Run (times three), Serious Injury by Vehicle (times four), Reckless Driving, Following too Closely (times three), and Failure to Maintain Lane.
The Fairmount community is left mourning the loss of a fellow motorcyclist while hoping for the swift recovery of those injured in this tragic event. The investigation into this hit-and-run crash continues as authorities work diligently to bring justice to all affected parties.
