Pedestrian killed
The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking the public's assistance in locating a vehicle of interest involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Sunday morning. According to troopers, the tragic incident occurred at approximately 2:56 a.m. when a dark-colored pickup truck was traveling south on US-1, just north of Harrell Street, in Jacksonville.
Reports indicate that a 61-year-old man was walking along the outside shoulder when the truck lost control and veered onto the shoulder, striking the pedestrian. The impact from the crash propelled the victim onto the sidewalk southwest of US-1 and south of Harrell Street. Following this horrific collision, instead of stopping to render aid or report it to authorities, the driver fled from the scene heading south.
Based on preliminary investigations conducted by FHP, they believe that the truck involved may be identified as a Ford F-150 with significant damage to its front right side. This information will be crucial for identifying and apprehending those responsible for this heinous act.
In light of this incident, it serves as another reminder about road safety and being vigilant while driving or walking near busy roads. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable and drivers must exercise caution at all times to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
Anyone who witnessed or has any information regarding Sunday's hit-and-run crash is urged to contact Florida Highway Patrol immediately. Providing any details could prove instrumental in bringing justice for both victims' families affected by these accidents.
