Three Dead and Five Injured in Horrific Massapequa Crash

A tragic accident on a Long Island highway has resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to five others. The crash occurred when a speeding vehicle collided with several other cars, causing extensive damage. Emergency services received a 911 call reporting the incident just before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

First responders had to work on multiple vehicles, including cutting into one car's metal frame to gain access.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but detectives have determined that all the involved vehicles were traveling west near a shopping center. Two cars had stopped at a red light in the center lane when a Hyundai driven by a 32-year-old individual crashed into the back of one of them.

The impacted vehicle contained six family members, including a father and his children as well as a grandchild. As a result of the collision, their car then struck another vehicle—a Chevrolet Malibu driven by an 83-year-old man—before flipping over and crashing into yet another car.

Tragically, two individuals from the family's vehicle did not survive. Patrice Huntley, aged 60 and hailing from Flushing, Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene along with his 13-year-old daughter Hannah. Jeremiah Huntley, aged 10 years old and also part of their family unit, was rushed to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries there.

Two other members of Patrice Huntley's family—an 18-year-old child and his six-year-old granddaughter—are currently hospitalized with severe internal injuries that include brain bleeding according to Nassau Police Det. Capt. Steve Fitzpatrick. Another child from their family unit suffered back and rib injuries but is expected to recover.

The driver who caused this devastating crash suffered compound ankle fractures among other injuries while refusing medical attention at the scene initially; however, they were later taken to the hospital for treatment. The 83-year-old driver of the car struck in front of the family also sustained injuries but has since been released from medical care.

At present, no charges have been filed in relation to this incident; however, police have not ruled out the possibility and stated that speed was a significant factor contributing to the crash. Public works personnel spent hours cleaning up debris and scattered metal parts from the road after the accident, causing substantial traffic congestion while authorities conducted their investigation.
