MSHP is investigating the incident.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is urging drivers to exercise caution after a tragic accident that claimed the life of an infant. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a car collided with an Amish buggy, ejecting all three passengers inside.

According to the crash report and Sgt. Mike McClure, Julia Young was driving southbound on Route C near Seymour when she passed the horse-drawn buggy carrying Barbara and Sammy Schwartz along with their baby. Young collided with the rear-end of the buggy at around 5 p.m., causing all three passengers to be ejected from it.

Tragically, the child did not survive and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital in Springfield. The parents sustained moderate injuries while Young has not been charged as MSHP continues its investigation into this incident.

Sgt. McClure emphasized that there are no specific safety regulations for buggies within the Amish community but urged drivers to be more cautious regardless of who they share roads with.

Sgt. McClure echoed Balboa's sentiments by reminding people living in communities like Seymour where there is a significant Amish population to stay focused on driving rather than being distracted by phones or other devices while behind the wheel.
