Apex Police Confirm Juvenile Dead After Collision with SUV
A juvenile riding a scooter has died after colliding with an SUV in Apex, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at around 1 p.m. in the 1900 block of Woodall Crest Drive at Metta Mill Lane.
According to reports from the police department, "the child was taken to a Durham County medical facility but died from injuries sustained in the crash." No other individuals were injured during the accident.
The victim was identified as a boy aged between nine and ten years old by a representative of the Home Owner's Association where the collision happened. Chris Chandler, who is also a neighbor in Woodall Estates, said his daughter witnessed the event while playing outside.
Police are still investigating what caused this tragic accident and have called upon their Traffic Safety Unit to conduct crash reconstruction as part of their investigation. One wheel was missing from what appeared to be hybrid scooter-bicycle vehicle involved in this incident.
Additionally, authorities noted that there was damage done to front passenger side of black Mercedes SUV parked nearby which they towed away later that day.
The HOA had been lobbying for months now trying reduce speed limit within neighborhood down from current 25 mph limit down towards range between 10-15 mph limits instead.
At present time no charges have been filed against anyone involved yet pending further investigations into matter by local law enforcement agencies.
This latest tragedy comes amid rising concerns over safety issues related scooters across North Carolina state where many accidents go unreported every year according recent statistics released earlier this month highlighting increase number crashes involving these vehicles statewide
