On Tuesday, a Lockport woman was cited for DUI after crashing her silver Volkswagen Jetta into the storefront of Midtown Bar and Grill in downtown Manhattan. The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m., according to Manhattan Police Chief Jeff Wold.
Authorities responded to a report of a single vehicle crash at the bar. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the Jetta had collided with the building, resulting in significant structural damage. The driver, identified as Tatiana Esparza, 31 years old, was found to be under the influence and has been cited accordingly by law enforcement. Esparza was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, Esparza sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Silver Cross Hospital by Manhattan Fire Protection District Chief Steve Malone's team. Meanwhile, crews are currently working on stabilizing the damaged building.
Kevin Schuster, owner of Midtown Bar and Grill, confirmed that no one was inside when the crash occurred since it happened during closing hours. He expressed his intention to expedite necessary repairs so that he can reopen as soon as possible.
Esparza is scheduled to appear in Will County Court on December 15th regarding this incident.
