A major accident involving two semi trucks resulted in a large fire and an extended road closure on SH 349, just south of the SH 176 intersection on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Preliminary information suggests that a southbound semi truck with trailer was rear-ended by another southbound semi truck with trailer, which was transporting diesel fuel. As a result, the semi carrying the fuel caught fire.
Fortunately, both drivers were able to exit their vehicles safely. However, the driver of the truck transporting fuel sustained minor injuries and was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Authorities worked diligently to contain the fire and clear the scene. After several hours of closure, SH 349 reopened at approximately 2:15 pm.
Accidents like these serve as reminders for drivers to exercise caution while on the roadways. It is crucial to maintain safe distances between vehicles and remain vigilant at all times.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing as authorities work towards determining its cause and any potential contributing factors.
