All lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Tukwila are currently blocked due to a collision involving a semi-truck, as reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The incident occurred south of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported according to the Washington State Patrol. However, the collision has caused significant disruption to traffic flow in the area.
Efforts were made by crews to alleviate congestion by opening the right shoulder at around 1 p.m. This temporary solution aimed to provide some relief for drivers caught in the backup.
In light of this situation, motorists are advised to avoid the affected area and anticipate substantial delays. It is recommended that alternate routes be used until further notice.
Trooper Rick Johnson shared an update on Twitter regarding the incident. He mentioned that one lane was being worked on for reopening but did not provide an estimated time for clearance. Additionally, he noted that oil and diesel had spilled onto the roadway as a result of the semi-truck rollover.
The WSDOT Traffic account also provided information about this major collision via Twitter. They confirmed it was a semi-truck rollover collision and stated that fire and incident response teams were present at the scene. Due to its complexity, authorities expect this closure will last for an extended period and cause significant delays for those traveling southbound from Seattle.
Once again, it is strongly advised that commuters steer clear of this area if possible and seek alternative routes until normal traffic conditions can be restored.
