Male motorcyclist killed in collision with car on near east side of Indianapolis

A male motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car on Wednesday night in Indianapolis. The incident occurred at the intersection of E. Washington and N. Pine streets, where police were called around 8:45 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a motorcycle and car that had collided. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead.
According to the preliminary investigation by IMPD, the motorcyclist was driving eastbound on E. Washington Street when it collided with a car turning from the Interstate 65 ramp onto westbound E. Washington Street. Police believe that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The driver of the car remained on scene and is cooperating fully with IMPD’s investigation, while alcohol is not believed to be involved.
IMPD's crash unit is investigating this incident which will cause closures and delays throughout the night in areas surrounding E.Washington St.and N.Pine St.Drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as E.Ohio St.,E.New York St.,and E.Michigan St..
“Traffic from I-65 ramp is being diverted eastbound on E.Washington St.” said IMPD.“Drivers trying to access downtown from I-65 are encouraged to exit at I-70 westbound and exit at Meridian St.”
