Sentenced to 405 months in prison on each of the murder counts
The man responsible for a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of four Durant High School students in 2020 has been sentenced to over three decades in federal prison. Bradley Pittman, now 45 years old, pleaded guilty to four counts of Second-Degree Murder in Indian Country for the deaths of Kaleb Foster, Jack Sarver, Hunter Ford, and Fernando Flores.
Pittman admitted to driving at speeds exceeding 70 mph on Main Street before crashing into the car carrying the boys. The incident occurred just before midnight on May 24, 2020 when the students were stopped at a traffic light. The impact pushed their vehicle off the road, across the median, and down a hill.
Mary Kelsay, Flores' mother, shared her heartbreak following the tragedy: "My little boy said, 'Mommy we're never going to have my brother back again?' And I said 'No baby.' He said,'I wish this was just a bad dream,' and I said,'I wish it was.'"
At the time of the crash, Pittman had a blood alcohol level three times above legal limits. Additionally, he was driving with a suspended driver's license and had multiple previous DUI convictions.
Pittman has been sentenced to serve 405 months (over three decades) in prison for each murder count concurrently.
"Families lost four teenagers due to one reckless decision that has had devastating consequences for Durant community," stated Edward J. Gray FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge. "Let this sentence be a reminder of how serious and irreversible driving under influence can be so no other family will have to suffer such immense loss."
This sentencing serves as an important reminder about the severe consequences of drunk driving and highlights efforts needed towards preventing similar tragedies from occurring in future communities.
