A tragic incident occurred in the Town of Excelsior, Wisconsin on Friday morning as a middle school student was hit by a pickup truck while trying to board a school bus. The Sauk Co. Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the student passed away due to injuries sustained from the accident.

The School District of Reedsburg released a statement expressing their condolences and support for the family and community affected by this tragedy. “This is a truly devastating time for our entire community, and it will have far-reaching effects,” they said.

According to reports, the bus had stopped near Northwoods Drive when a Ford F-150 came up behind it. The driver did not slow down in time and swerved right to avoid hitting the school bus but ended up sideswiping it before striking the student who had not yet boarded. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, first responders pronounced the student dead at the scene.

None of the students on board suffered any injuries during this incident. They were taken back to Webb Middle School where they could be reunited with their families while investigations continued at the scene.

The driver of the truck also suffered minor injuries during this event which remains under investigation by reconstruction units collecting evidence for several hours after reopening State Hwy 23/33 shortly after noon.

In response to this tragedy, all high school athletic events scheduled for Friday night and Saturday were canceled while counselors from all schools within Reedsburg's district are available for anyone needing help or support through these difficult times including those available at Webb Middle School between 8 am -12 pm on Saturday.
