Emily Gerding killed, John Gerding critically injured

A tragic car crash in Robbinsdale, Minnesota has left a family devastated as they mourn the loss of their mother and father. The victims have been identified as Emily and John Gerding, both special education teachers at Coon Rapids Middle School.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when a 20-year-old driver from Minneapolis allegedly ran through a red light and collided with the Gerdings' minivan. Emily, 34 years old, was killed instantly while her husband John sustained critical injuries.

According to Robbinsdale police, the chain of events began when an officer noticed a white Tesla driving at 55 mph on a road with a speed limit of 30 mph. The officer pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens activated but eventually ended the chase just blocks away from where the crash took place.

Travelling at a high rate of speed, the suspect vehicle crossed 36th Avenue, hitting the unsuspecting victim's vehicle. It is estimated that the suspect was traveling between 70 and 90 mph at the time of impact.

The driver responsible for this tragedy is expected to survive and is currently being held on probable cause for criminal vehicular operation charges.

Emily Gerding had been eagerly planning her daughter's Elton John-themed third birthday party before her life was tragically cut short. Her family remembers her as someone who always ensured everyone around her was having fun.

Now left without their mother, Emily's two young daughters will face an uncertain future. However, Linda Darmer — Emily's mother — is determined to provide them with stability amidst this tragedy.

John Gerding, who is currently in critical condition with multiple broken bones and a traumatic brain injury, has always been known for his positive outlook on life. As a teacher, he consistently focused on the good and left negativity behind.
