Mother and child died, driver of the other vehicle hospitalized
A tragic head-on collision in Moore County, North Carolina has claimed the lives of a mother and her 4-year-old child. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Town of Vass.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Dakota Sky Morris-Zolman was driving when she crossed the center line on Highway 690 and collided with another car head-on. Tragically, her son Isaiah Thyme Morris was in a car seat in the back but was not properly restrained or secured. As a result, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Morris-Zolman herself sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, she tragically passed away a few hours later.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in this devastating crash also required medical attention and remains hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, a passenger from that vehicle only suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
While authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in this tragedy, they believe that speeding may have been a contributing factor. At present, no charges have been filed related to this incident.
This heart-wrenching accident serves as an important reminder about proper safety measures while traveling with children.
