Mother killed, 6-year-old son in critical condition, other passengers injured
A family in Forest Acres, South Carolina is mourning the loss of a mother and praying for the recovery of her six-year-old son who remains in critical condition after a car accident last Tuesday. Nicola "Nikki" Diane Harrell, 31, was driving with her mother, four of her five children, and her niece when their car was involved in a pile-up at the intersection of North Beltline Road and Trenholm Road.
Harrell had just picked up her children from school when the accident occurred. She died at the scene while the remaining passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to Harrell's husband Datron, his children have different injuries ranging from broken legs to a fractured skull. The oldest injured child is 12 years old while the youngest is only six.
Tristan Harrell, Datron's youngest son who is only six years old suffered severe head trauma including a cracked skull as well as other injuries such as broken wrist and collarbone among others. He remains in critical condition under medically induced coma.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page asking for donations to help cover medical expenses and funeral costs for Nikki Harrel whose burial plans are underway this week followed by months of physical therapy for their injured children.
Three out of four discharged patients include eight-year-old Alex Harrell.
