Mother killed, daughter critically injured in Mid-Wilshire crash

Mother pronounced dead at the scene, daughter in critical but stable condition
Los Angeles, CA -- A woman was killed and her 6-year-old daughter was severely injured in a crash that occurred in the Mid-Wilshire district on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the driver of a Nissan pickup truck suffered a medical emergency during the crash.
The incident took place in the 6200 block of West Colgate Avenue when the truck hit two pedestrians, a mother and her daughter, and then crashed into an apartment building. The pedestrians were identified as a mother walking with her first-grade daughter to school at nearby Hancock Elementary.
"The driver has been positively identified and remains out of custody at this time, but as the investigation proceeds there is a potential that charges may be filed at a later date," the LAPD said in a news release.
The driver, a 30-year-old man, was injured and transported to a hospital in stable condition. The 6-year-old girl was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical but stable condition as of Wednesday, according to the police.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.
"At this time, based upon the totality of the circumstances, this appears to be a tragic accident that possibly resulted from a medical emergency," the LAPD said.
Police will continue to investigate the incident by looking at video footage, searching for possible witnesses, and conducting a forensic examination of the truck.
