Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured
A tragic accident occurred on Thursday in Hawkins County, Tennessee, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. According to authorities, the incident took place around 1 p.m. on U.S. Highway 11W near Substation Road in the Mooresburg community.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a preliminary crash report stating that Bret A. Garegnani, a 39-year-old resident of Colorado, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. 11W when a dump truck unexpectedly pulled out from Old Highway 11W and crossed into his path.
Tragically, Garegnani was pronounced dead at the scene by highway patrol officers. The passenger on the motorcycle, identified as a 37-year-old woman from Colorado, sustained injuries during the collision.
Both individuals were wearing helmets approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT). However, despite this safety precaution, they could not avoid serious harm.
Authorities have indicated that charges against the driver of the dump truck are pending further investigation into the incident. It is important to note that although described as a farm vehicle by highway patrol officials, it is not classified as a commercial vehicle.
