Multiple Lanes Closed on I-55 in Plainfield After Semi-Truck Crash

Multiple lanes were closed on I-55 in Plainfield, Illinois on Friday morning following a crash involving a semi-truck carrying ham. The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. at the intersection of I-55 and Plainfield Road.

According to officials from the Plainfield Fire Protection District, the crash resulted in the spillage of over 1,000 gallons of fuel and meat onto the highway. Three individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Illinois State Police confirmed that multiple vehicles were involved in the accident, including a semi-trailer truck. The truck tractor was found in the first northbound lane while the semi-trailer leaked fuel across southbound lanes.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the northbound semi-truck lost control, crossed over into oncoming traffic, and collided with another southbound semi-truck hauling gasoline. The collision caused significant damage to the trailer of the southbound truck, resulting in more than 1,000 gallons of gasoline spilling onto the roadway.

One of the trucks involved was reportedly a refrigerated semi-truck transporting ham.

As a result of this crash and subsequent cleanup efforts, authorities had to fully close down all southbound lanes on I-55 near Route 126 close to Weber Road for several hours. Traffic heading south was diverted off at Weber Road as per instructions from law enforcement officials.
