Traffic delays

Eastbound traffic on Interstate 90 experienced significant delays this morning following a multiple semitruck crash near Cle Elum. The incident occurred around milepost 79, approximately four miles west of the town.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the collision involved four semitrucks and one SUV. It all began when the first semitruck jackknifed, obstructing the roadway and triggering a chain reaction among the vehicles.

The WSP reported that the SUV collided with the jackknifed semitruck. As it attempted to avoid hitting them, another semitruck ended up sideswiping both vehicles. Subsequently, two more semitrucks crashed into each other as they tried to maneuver through the chaotic scene.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained by the driver of the SUV who received treatment at the scene. No other injuries were reported in connection with this accident.

The primary cause of this crash was determined to be excessive speed by the driver of the initial semitruck given prevailing road conditions at that time according to authorities from WSP.

As a result of this incident, eastbound lanes on I-90 had to be temporarily closed for about 20 minutes before one lane was reopened for traffic flow again.
