Nappanee Woman Fannie Mae Bontrager Killed in Kosciusko County Crash

A tragic accident occurred on Friday morning in Kosciusko County, resulting in the death of a woman and a horse. The incident happened when a utility truck collided with a horse-drawn buggy.
The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Fannie Mae Bontrager from Nappanee. She was driving the buggy at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office.
The collision also resulted in the death of the horse that was pulling Bontrager's buggy. The driver of the utility truck, a 43-year-old man from Columbia City, survived without any injuries.
As per reports from The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were called around 10:30 am to attend to an accident on County Road 800 West just north of County Road 850 North. Upon arrival, they found both vehicles involved in this fatal collision.
Police say that while heading north on Country Road 800 West behind a dump truck, which had passed over safely; however, unfortunately for Bontrager and her horse who were going in their direction - they weren't so lucky as they got hit by this vehicle following them.
The cause of this deadly crash is still under investigation.
