Both in serious condition

The Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a Nassau County Deputy and the driver who collided with him are both in serious condition following an accident on State Road 200. The incident occurred on Sunday night when the NCSO deputy was en route to assist another deputy on Interstate 95.

According to reports, the deputy was driving a fully marked patrol SUV with emergency lights and sirens activated while heading westbound. However, a 79-year-old driver failed to notice the approaching patrol vehicle as he crossed SR200 from Mentoria Road. Consequently, his car entered the path of the deputy's vehicle and struck its right side.

Both individuals involved in the crash were immediately transported to UF Health in Jacksonville for treatment of their injuries. They are currently listed in serious condition.
