New Jersey Man Charged in Fatal Crash in Central Nyack

A 24-year-old New Jersey man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday evening in Central Nyack, according to Clarkstown police. The accident involved two vehicles at Route 59 and Broome Boulevard at around 7:15 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a gray Audi being operated erratically while traveling west on Route 59 from Waldron Avenue. As the Audi approached the intersection near Broome Boulevard, it struck a Ford Edge.
The collision sent both vehicles over the curb and into the Hub Shopping Center where they came to rest. Unfortunately, the driver of the Ford was pronounced dead after being transported by Nyack Community Ambulance and Rockland Paramedics to Montefiore Nyack hospital. Her name is currently being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Audi was identified as Corey Womack who was taken to Montefiore Nyack for treatment before being placed under arrest. He is now awaiting arraignment in Clarkstown Justice Court on charges of criminally negligent homicide (a felony) and reckless driving (a misdemeanor).
Clarkstown Police Headquarters have confirmed that a portion of Route 59 had to be closed while their Accident Investigation Team were at work investigating this incident and during clean-up operations.
