I-85 was expected to reopen around 12:40 a.m. but officially reopened around 11 p.m.
A crash in northeast Charlotte caused the closure of a section of I-85 on Friday night, according to NCDOT. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on I-85 northbound near Mile Marker 43.
Officials advised that the road was closed after Exit 43 (University City Boulevard). The closure caused significant traffic delays and motorists were urged to seek alternate routes.
Initially, it was expected that I-85 would reopen around 12:40 a.m., but officials managed to clear the scene earlier than anticipated and reopened the road around 11 p.m.
No further information about the cause or nature of the accident has been released by authorities at this time.
