Northmont High School Senior Chris Gwynne Killed in Dayton Crash

DAYTON - A 19-year-old Northmont High School senior has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday morning. Chris Gwynne, a resident of Englewood, was identified by the district and a crash report as the person who lost his life in the accident.
The district officials expressed their condolences in a statement posted on social media on Sunday night, saying, "With great sadness, we're sharing that senior, Chris Gwynne, passed away over the weekend in an automobile accident."
The Dayton Police and Fire departments responded to the crash at the intersection of Cambridge Avenue and Salem Avenue at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday. According to the crash report, a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt was heading southeast on Salem Avenue at an unknown speed when the driver lost control. The car began to rotate before going off the right side of the road and hitting an RTA pole.
Gwynne was a backseat passenger at the time of the crash. Five other teenagers, ranging in age from 16 to 19, were also in the car and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Two of them were being treated for suspected serious injuries, while the other three were being treated for suspected minor injuries.
Northmont High School announced on Monday that their mock crash scheduled for Friday had been cancelled. School officials also said that counselors will be available for students.
The crash is still under investigation.
