Nun killed, others in critical condition

A tragic accident in North East Township, Pennsylvania has claimed the life of a nun and left several others in critical condition. The incident occurred at the intersection of Gay and East Lake Roads on July 16.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, an SUV had come to a stop at the intersection before proceeding through it. However, as the vehicle entered the intersection, it was struck by a pickup truck traveling west on Lake Road. The impact caused the front of the pickup truck to collide with the driver's side of the SUV, causing it to roll over before coming to rest on its wheels in a nearby grassy area.

Tragically, 79-year-old Arlene Semesky from Webster, New York sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. Meanwhile, Joanne Deck, aged 75 and driving the SUV at that time, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Additionally, two other passengers inside the SUV and two minor passengers inside the pickup truck were also transported to hospitals for suspected minor injuries. Authorities called upon Erie County Coroner's Office to attend to matters related to this unfortunate incident.

The Diocese of Rochester expressed their condolences following this devastating accident. In an official statement released by them regarding Sister Arlene Semesky's passing and injuries sustained by three other Sisters of Mercy involved in this tragedy along with passengers from another vehicle:
