Officer suffered minor injuries, driver and passenger of SUV were not injured

A police officer in southeastern Wisconsin narrowly escaped a dangerous situation when his squad car rolled onto its roof and caught fire after a crash. The incident occurred on July 8 around 2:40 p.m. in Caledonia, as the officer was attempting to pull over a speeding vehicle near Douglas Avenue and Harvest Lane.

According to the Caledonia Police Department, the officer was traveling northbound on Douglas Avenue in an effort to catch up with a vehicle that was allegedly going 90 mph in a 45 mph zone. As he passed other drivers who had yielded, an SUV traveling northbound reportedly made a left turn onto Harvest Lane directly into the path of the officer.

The collision caused the squad car to be pushed off the road and flip onto its roof. To make matters worse, a fire started in the hood of the vehicle shortly after impact. However, thanks to quick-thinking witnesses who came to his aid, the officer managed to free himself from the overturned squad before flames engulfed it completely.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained by the officer during this harrowing ordeal. The driver and passenger of the SUV involved in the crash did not suffer any injuries.
