One Person Dies in Three-Vehicle Accident in Omaha
On Tuesday afternoon, a three-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of 50th St. and NW Radial Highway in Omaha resulting in one fatality. The Omaha Police Department reported that they received a call about the incident around 1:45 p.m.
According to officers, a 2010 Kia Forte was heading east on NW Radial Hwy when it slowed down or stopped at the far right turn lane before turning left improperly across both eastbound lanes and a northbound lane. A 2008 Nissan Altima traveling east tried to avoid hitting the Kia but ended up crashing instead while trying to maneuver around it.
The Kia was then hit by a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was also going east as it turned left. Four people were taken to nearby hospitals for their injuries.
The driver of the Kia, identified as a 78-year-old man from Omaha, is being treated for chest and back pain while his passenger, Melody Stephens (76) reportedly died after arriving at the hospital.
The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck is said to be uninjured but his passenger had arm and shoulder pain and was taken to hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of Nissan Altima suffered leg and arm pains but left shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Authorities reopened NW Radial Hwy around 5:45 p.m., following investigation into what caused this tragic accident which claimed one life.
