One Dead After Big Rig Crashes into Toll Booth on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

One person died, lane closures on the bridge
One person died overnight on Tuesday, after a big rig collided with a toll booth on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in California. The incident resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol. Early Tuesday morning, officials announced the fatality.
By Tuesday morning, three out of seven toll lanes were accessible for motorists traveling westbound on Interstate 580 across the bridge. However, Caltrans officials cautioned that two or three lanes would likely remain closed throughout most of the day to facilitate repairs to the damaged area.
Eyewitnesses reported that prior to crashing into the toll booth and triggering a fire, the truck was observed swerving erratically. Fire crews promptly extinguished the flames at the scene while a crane was summoned to assist in removing the big rig from its position.
The driver involved in this tragic incident was transported to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries later on.
