One Person Dead After Four-Vehicle Crash on I-57 Near Cal Sag Channel
Illinois State Police reported a fatal four-vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning on Interstate 57 near the Cal Sag Channel. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when a white Peterbilt dump truck broke down and parked on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-57.
According to authorities, a gold 2014 Chevrolet sedan in the right lane crossed all lanes to the left and hit the back of the truck, then swerved back to the right. Two other cars, including a red 2010 Pontiac sedan and red 2018 Hyundai sedan, were hit by debris from the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as David B. Gray by Medical Examiner's Office but his name has not been released yet. Gray was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead while no one else sustained any injuries.
All southbound lanes were closed for more than two hours after this tragic accident but reopened shortly after 11 am. The cause of this deadly crash remains under investigation.
