One Person Dies in Lincoln Car Accident
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has reported that one person died in a car accident on Saturday night. The incident occurred at around 8:35 p.m. on the 1100 block of S 14th St. According to officers, the driver of a 1953 Chevy lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wooden utility pole after going off-road and into a ditch.
The driver was identified as Alexander Schoneweis, aged 20 and from Lincoln. He was reportedly the only person in the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene despite being taken out of his car by authorities.
Police have confirmed that Schoneweis used a lap seatbelt but no other safety equipment such as airbags were utilized during this tragic event. While alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors contributing to this accident, speed may have played a role.
