According to the Knoxville Police Department, one person died in a two-car crash that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at downtown Knoxville. The accident happened on Henley Street at Main Street just after 1 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed that an Infiniti sedan attempted a U-turn on the Henley Street bridge and was involved in a minor crash with a KAT bus. University of Tennessee Police Department officers who witnessed the incident reported it to KPD. Based on their report, investigators believe that the Infiniti left the scene of the crash with the bus traveling north on Henley Street.

Shortly afterward, while turning left onto Main Street, an SUV collided with the Infiniti. The male driver of the Infiniti was pronounced dead at the scene while a female passenger of Jeep SUV sustained injuries believed to be non-life threatening and was transported to hospital for treatment.

KPD has withheld information about deceased's identity pending notification of next-of-kin. Meanwhile, they have reopened roads around 3 p.m., but investigations are still ongoing by KPD crash reconstruction investigators.
