23-Year-Old Killed in Bloomfield Two-Car Crash

BLOOMFIELD, CT - A two-car crash in Bloomfield on Friday morning resulted in one fatality and five injuries. The accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. on Blue Hills Avenue between West Dudley Town and Old Windsor roads.
The deceased victim was identified as a 23-year-old male who was a passenger in a Volkswagen GTI hatchback. The other passengers in the vehicle, aged 21, 21, 26, and 27, sustained various injuries. The driver of a 2004 Subaru Legacy, a 33-year-old man from Windsor, was also injured and rushed to St. Francis Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, both drivers were traveling at a high rate of speed and passing several vehicles before the crash. Both vehicles left the roadway at some point. The Volkswagen struck a utility pole, which severed it. The Subaru hit a building at 1294 Blue Hills Ave., causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The vehicle that struck the pole had five people in it. One of them, the 23-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four were brought to a hospital, with two suffering serious injuries and the other two having injuries described as "life-threatening."
Following the crash, the area was closed to drivers. Police continue to investigate the incident.
