passenger killed, driver of car injured
A passenger has died after a large truck's loose tire hit the car they were in on the Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday near Blalock.
According to authorities, the truck was traveling eastbound on the freeway when it lost a tire, which bounced onto the westbound lanes and hit a Kia SUV on the Katy Tollway, killing the passenger.
The driver of the car veered across all six lanes and hit the outside wall, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the large truck continued driving eastbound and did not stop.
Investigators are questioning if the driver even realized what happened. Deputies said it's possible the tire that came loose may have been a spare.
The crash resulted in all westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway being closed, but it has since cleared.
