Pedestrian killed, another seriously injured
A hit-and-run incident involving a semi-truck on I-55 in Bolingbrook, Illinois has left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured. The accident occurred early Friday morning when a vehicle ran out of gas and was pulled over on the side of the road in the northbound lanes near Route 53.
According to Illinois State Police, at around 3:16 am, "the driver and passenger got out" of their car when they were struck by the semi-truck that fled from the scene. The driver was pronounced dead at the site while the passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident caused significant traffic backups for miles as investigators gathered evidence. Traffic had to be diverted off the interstate for hours as witnesses stopped on the shoulder to speak with troopers.
Family members have identified her as Perla Andrade-Garcia, aged 28, who lived on Chicago's Southwest Side and leaves behind two children.Authorities are urging anyone with information about this hit-and-run accident or who may have witnessed it to come forward and contact them immediately.
