Pedestrian injured, officer not injured
A pedestrian was struck by a Hampton Police Department cruiser on Ashworth Avenue at Hampton Beach Sunday night while the patrol officer was responding to a call for service elsewhere, according to Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno.
The extent of the pedestrian's injuries is not immediately known, and the officer involved was not injured. The pedestrian was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by ambulance, according to the Hampton Fire Department.
Amber Lagace, spokesperson for New Hampshire State Police, declined to comment on the status of the pedestrian's injuries or when police will release the identities of those involved. "No additional information on this incident has been released from New Hampshire State Police," Lagace said in an email.
To avoid any appearance of conflict of interest, Chief Reno requested that state police thoroughly investigate the incident. The Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit (CAR) is leading the investigation. Chief Reno stated that he will have no further comment at this time.
