Person Killed After Being Hit by Dump Truck on Interstate 485 in Pineville

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Pineville, North Carolina, as a person was killed after being hit by a dump truck on Interstate 485. The authorities were alerted just before 12:30 p.m., and emergency crews rushed to the scene near Pineville-Matthews Road.
According to MEDIC (Mecklenburg EMS Agency), the call reported that an individual had been struck on the interstate. Investigators from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrived at the location and determined that the victim had been standing in front of their car on the right shoulder of I-485. The car was safely parked underneath the Park Road bridge with its hood up, completely out of traffic.
Tragically, as troopers investigated further, they discovered that a dump truck traveling east in the right lane collided with the victim after they suddenly darted into traffic. The impact occurred in the middle of the right lane, resulting in fatal injuries for the individual involved. By the time troopers reached them, it was too late to save their life.
At this time, authorities have not released any information regarding the identity of the victim. They are currently working to notify their family members about this devastating loss.
In order to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, officials closed down all lanes of I-485's outer loop for several hours on Tuesday. Drivers were advised to anticipate significant delays due to these closures.
Fortunately for commuters affected by this tragedy, I-485 reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m., allowing traffic flow to resume once again.
