Emergency Crews Respond to Fatal Plane Crash in Brunswick County, North Carolina

On Sunday afternoon, emergency crews were called to the scene of a plane crash on Frying Pan Road in Southport. According to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the pilot died in the crash.

Southport Fire Chief Charles Drew reported that "the small plane crashed into a home and was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived." Fortunately, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arriving at the scene.

The FAA has confirmed that only one person was on board at the time of the crash - the pilot. The agency stated that "the plane had taken off from Cape Fear Regional Jetport, which is about a mile away from the crash site."

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among those who were inside of or around their homes during this tragic event. Three people were inside of their home when it was struck by debris from this accident but they all made it out safely.

According to an FAA spokesperson: "No injuries on ground were reported". The cause of this fatal incident remains under investigation by both federal agencies involved - National Transportation Safety Board and FAA.
