Plane Crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike in Fairview Township

UPDATE (JUN 1, 2023): The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that the pilot of a single-engine Cessna 180 plane that crashed and hit a utility truck on an off-ramp of Pennsylvania Turnpike in York County, Pennsylvania has died.
According to the FAA’s accident report released on Thursday, while the passenger sustained serious injuries, Lawrence Sager, 74 years old from Harrisburg was pronounced dead at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. An autopsy is yet to be completed.
Ted Czech with the York County Office of Emergency Management stated that one passenger was taken by helicopter to hospital while another was transported via ambulance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported for the driver of the truck involved in the crash. A hazmat team responded to calls but there were no reports of fire or explosion.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will release a preliminary report detailing facts and circumstances surrounding this incident including flight tracking data as well as communications with airport tower within two-three weeks; however it may take up to two years for a full NTSB report.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a single-engine Cessna 180 was involved in the crash with two individuals onboard. Ted Czech from the York County Office of Emergency Management stated that there were injuries, but their extent is currently unknown.
PennDOT reported that a utility truck was also involved in the accident as it was nearby when the crash happened. As a result, there is now a ramp closure at Harrisburg West Interchange according to 511PA.
Both FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate this incident further to determine its cause and gather more information about what happened during this tragic event.
Capital City Airport is located five miles away from Downtown Harrisburg and State Capitol Building.
