Police chase involving cement truck ends in officer-involved shooting

An unusual police chase involving a cement truck that stretched from Richmond to Henrico ended with an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred on May 2, 2023.
According to Henrico Police, Richmond Police officers first tried to stop a cement truck that was in the City on Tuesday. Then, a chase between the truck and officers began. Henrico Police joined the chase just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday before it ended in a crash at Deanne and Rodney Roads in west Henrico.
Then, police say Richmond officers shot at the man who was driving the truck. The cement truck driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No officers were injured.
The Richmond Police Officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave as the department investigates the shooting. Henrico Police are still working to learn how many shots were fired and who fired first. Two Richmond Police cars were also significantly damaged in the crash.
