Portage Teen Pronounced Dead in Crash in Columbia County

A tragic car accident in Columbia County, Wisconsin has claimed the life of a Portage teenager. According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the 17-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred on Saturday night around 11 p.m. when emergency crews were called to respond to a one-car crash in the Town of Newport on Ingebretson Road. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the vehicle had sustained significant damage and found the driver still inside.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim as they continue their investigation into what caused this devastating accident. However, initial evidence suggests that speed may have been a contributing factor. It appears that while traveling westbound on Ingebretson Road, the driver lost control of her vehicle and veered into a ditch before colliding with a tree and flipping over.
In addition to local law enforcement, several other agencies provided assistance during this tragic event. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office was supported by UW Health Med Flight, Kilbourn Fire Department, Dells-Delton EMS, Wisconsin Dells Police Department, Columbia Co. Medical Examiner’s Office and Blystone’s Towing.
