Postal truck flipped into a ditch, trapping Jones underneath. Suspect's car drove off.

A postal worker lost his life in a hit-and-run accident over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., when Robert Jones, an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, was carrying out his regular route in north Houston. As Jones attempted to make a left turn, an SUV tried to maneuver around another vehicle and collided with both Jones' mail truck and the car it was avoiding.

The impact caused the mail truck to flip into a nearby ditch, trapping Jones underneath. Shockingly, instead of stopping to help or call for emergency assistance, the driver of the suspect's car—a 2011 Ford Expedition—appeared to slow down momentarily before fleeing from the scene.

In light of this tragedy, police commended witnesses who rushed towards Jones in an attempt to save him while others pursued after the fleeing SUV. According to authorities from the Houston Police Department (HPD), these witnesses managed to note down the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle.

Subsequently, leads provided to HPD led officers to visit an address associated with that license plate registration. Claims were made that the SUV had been stolen.

Jones had been a dedicated USPS employee for seven years and cherished his job immensely.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this hit-and-run incident to contact HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or provide anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
