Connecticut State Police Investigate Fatal Accident Involving Reverend Hit by Police Cruiser
Connecticut State Police are currently investigating a tragic incident in Stamford, where a reverend was struck and killed by a police cruiser. The incident occurred on Wire Mill Road at approximately 4:15 p.m., according to the Stamford Police Department.
The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Tommie Jackson, who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries. Reverend Tommie Jackson was widely known and respected within the Stamford community for his unwavering faith and commitment to public service.
Reverend Jackson served as pastor at both Rehoboth Fellowship Church and Faith Tabernacle Church. Additionally, he held the position of assistant director of the Urban Redevelopment Commission.
Reverend Jackson's wife, Dorye, serves as a commissioner for the Stamford Police Department. Officer Zachary Lockwood was on duty when the accident occurred in a residential area near exit 35 of the Merritt Parkway. According to state police reports, Reverend Jackson had been crossing the road after retrieving mail from his mailbox when Officer Lockwood attempted evasive maneuvers but ultimately collided with him.
The investigation into this tragic incident is being handled by both the Western District Major Crime Squad and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad. Local residents have raised concerns about pedestrian safety along Wire Mill Road due to its lack of sidewalks. Visibility can be challenging at times, compounded by mailboxes situated across from homes.
