Unnamed driver and passenger of the Hyundai were pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Johnson was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

An on-duty police officer in Riviera Beach was involved in a fatal crash early Sunday morning, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at 13th Street and Australian Avenue, north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Officer Carl Johnson was driving a 2022 Dodge Charger when it collided with a Hyundai whose driver was turning left onto West 13th Street from northbound Australian Avenue. The impact caused serious injuries to Johnson and resulted in the deaths of both the driver and passenger of the Hyundai.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with PBSO taking over despite it occurring within city limits. It has not been confirmed whether or not Johnson was on duty at the time of the crash.

This tragic event serves as a reminder for all drivers to exercise caution while on the road, especially during late-night hours when visibility may be reduced and reaction times slower. Our thoughts are with those affected by this devastating incident.
