Semi Carrying Hogs Rolls into Ditch in Sioux City

Sioux City, Iowa - In a Friday morning incident, a semi-truck transporting hogs veered off the road and landed in a ditch. The Sioux City Police Department reported that the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 20 while the vehicle was taking the southbound off-ramp onto Interstate 29.

According to authorities, the semi was equipped with a livestock trailer carrying 157 hogs, some of which were positioned on an upper level. This top-heavy configuration caused instability when several animals shifted towards one side of the trailer.

The driver explained to police that he lost control as a result of this sudden shift, causing him to run off the road at approximately 8:30 am. The semi ultimately rolled onto its passenger side and came to rest in a nearby ditch.

Fortunately, both the driver and passenger escaped unharmed during this harrowing ordeal.

To rectify the situation, Meier Towing had to employ three heavy-duty rigs to upright both the semi-truck and its attached trailer. Throughout this process, all hogs remained safely contained within their designated area despite being involved in such an unfortunate incident.

These particular hogs were not deemed commercially viable for consumption purposes. Consequently, they were transported to a local pet food facility instead of their original destination at Seaboard Triumph Foods.
