Semi-tanker and Train Collide in Millbury, Ohio

Fostoria Road has been closed at the railroad tracks just north of SR-795 following a collision between a semi-tanker and a train on Monday morning. The incident took place around 8:38 a.m. on September 18.
According to Lake Township Fire, an investigation conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol revealed that a 26-year-old man from Toledo was driving a Freightliner semi-tractor tanker combination southbound on Fostoria Road when he reached the railroad tracks. Despite an eastbound train having cleared the crossing and the gates being raised, the driver proceeded to cross.
However, as the semi-tanker crossed over the tracks, the gates unexpectedly came back down due to an approaching westbound train. The gate descended between the cab of the semi-tanker and its trailer.
Fortunately, prior to impact with the incoming train, OSHP reported that the driver managed to exit his vehicle safely.
The crash is currently under investigation and no charges have been filed thus far.
