Semi-Truck Crash Blocks Major Roadway in Alachua County

One person flown to the hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained in the crash.
A major roadway in Alachua County was blocked on Friday morning due to a semi-truck crash. Emergency crews are currently working diligently to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
According to officials from the Alachua County Fire Rescue, the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 301 just north of the Alachua County / Marion County line at approximately 9:50 a.m. The crash involved a semi-truck and an SUV, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles.
One person sustained injuries as a result of the collision and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The severity of their injuries is currently unknown.
In order to facilitate rescue operations and clean up any potential hazards, authorities closed off the affected section of U.S. Highway 301. HazMat crews were also dispatched to address a fuel spill caused by the accident.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes until further notice while emergency personnel work tirelessly at clearing debris and ensuring public safety.
