Semi-Truck Crash in Garden City Leaves One Dead: Ahmed Abdelgader

At least one person was seen being loaded into a medical helicopter on a stretcher. It was not immediately known whether that individual was the driver, a passenger or a bystander, nor how severe their injuries were.
A semi-truck crashed in Garden City, Utah on Friday at an intersection that has a history of similar accidents. The truck appeared to have gone through the T-shaped intersection where U.S. Highway 89 meets Bear Lake Blvd. and demolished part of a group of garages not connected to any homes. It appears that the front of the truck clipped the corner of a residence before it came to a stop.
At least one person was seen being loaded into a medical helicopter on a stretcher, but officials have not yet released details about who this individual is or how severe their injuries are.
This isn't the first time such an accident has occurred at this particular intersection. In October 2018, another truck driver died after his semi's brakes overheated and he was unable to stop. In August 2019, there were two incidents where trucks plowed through the same intersection, crashing into detached garages. fourth incident occurred in March 2020.
To combat the issue, the Utah Department of Transportation built a runaway truck ramp further up from this problematic spot hoping for prevention against such crashes occurring again.
Despite these efforts, however, there was still another incident when a semi overturned at precisely that location back in May 2022 after its driver realized they were unable to brake about two blocks westward from this junction.
