Driver killed in semi-truck crash near Willcox

Driver pronounced dead at the scene
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that an overpass near Willcox, Arizona was severely damaged on Wednesday morning after a semi-truck crashed into one of its pillars. The incident occurred when the truck ran off the right side of the roadway, hit a guardrail, and collided with the overpass pillar near State Route 191. The truck caught fire and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities have not yet identified the driver or the trucking company that owns the vehicle.
Deputy pictures from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office show the overpass's pillar to be close to collapsing. As a result, I-10 westbound remains closed at the New Mexico state line. Drivers heading westbound into Arizona are being instructed to detour to the Mexico border and then head north.
According to data from the Arizona Department of Transportation, roadway fatalities have been gradually increasing in Arizona over the last decade. ADOT offers driving tips on its website to help keep people safe on the road. "There’s always room for improvement when it comes to road safety," the department said on its website.
