Semi-Truck Crashes into Overpass on I-5 in Lakewood

Minor injuries reported, no fatalities. Traffic delays for several hours.
An early morning semi-truck crash on northbound Interstate 5 caused major traffic delays in Lakewood, Washington. The accident occurred at the exit to eastbound State Route 512/South Tacoma Way around 2:51 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The semi-tractor veered off to the right and flipped onto its side before hitting an overpass, causing its cab to jackknife into a vertical position. Photos from the scene showed the mangled truck against the overpass.
Trooper Robert Reyer reported that there were only minor injuries sustained by those involved in the crash. However, driver fatigue may have played a role in this incident.
Although three out of four lanes were closed until about 6:30 a.m., all lanes reopened by 6:45 a.m. Traffic was backed up for approximately four miles at one point due to this accident.
Fortunately, there is no structural damage done to the overpass as it remains safe for use.
