Wolcott Man Seriously Injured in Propane Truck and Tractor Trailer Crash in Southington

Layden suffered 'serious injuries' and was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. The driver of the tractor trailer reported no injuries in the collision.
Connecticut State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred on Wednesday morning between a propane truck and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 in Southington. The accident caused significant traffic delays throughout the day, and seriously injured Joseph Richard Layden, 61, of Wolcott.
According to an accident report released by state police on Thursday afternoon, Layden was driving an Osterman Propane truck in the center lane of three lanes when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The truck then crossed over into the right lane and shoulder before colliding with a parked tractor-trailer belonging to Kenneth Fox Supply Co., which was being operated by a 47-year-old Texas man.
While the driver of the tractor-trailer reported no injuries from the collision, Layden suffered "serious injuries" and was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. Both trucks were towed from the scene, and two lanes of traffic on I-84 were closed for much of Wednesday.
The crash is still under investigation, and any witnesses who may have captured footage of either vehicle on their dashboard camera are asked to contact state Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H in Hartford via email or phone.
